Weight loss services in West Sussex

Losing weight, even small amounts, can bring significant health benefits to people, especially with conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and knee or hip problems. It will also make you feel better and more energetic.

If you feel that you need to lose weight, there is help and support available to you in West Sussex.

If you are an adult with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 30, or over 28 with other health problems, then you could lose weight with our:

  • 'Why Weight?' service; or
  • special food and physical activity courses.

If you don't know what your BMI is, you can calculate it on the NHS Choices website.

'Why Weight?'

'Why Weight?' offers you help and support to lose weight by making positive changes to your lifestyle.

If you are an adult that wants to lose weight, the ‘Why Weight?’ service allows you to choose from a range of weight management groups across West Sussex that can support you with your weight loss.

After initially contacting ‘Why Weight?’ and discussing the available options, you will be able to attend weight management groups for a period of 10 to 12 weeks, free of charge.

The group sessions are held in a variety of community settings and run by Weight Watchers across the county. Once you have contacted the 'Why Weight?' team we can discuss what options are available for you.

I would like to take part in 'Why Weight?', what do I need to do?

You don't need to be referred by your GP if you want to use this service. All you need to do is give us a call on 0300 123 0892. We are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

 

Food and physical activity courses in West Sussex

If you are interested in attending one of these courses, you will need to contact your GP who will be able to refer you.

Crawley:

Crawley Wellbeing runs WOW (Weight Off Workshops) on behalf of the GP surgeries in Crawley. The programme consists of weekly hour and ½ sessions over a 12 week course that combines nutritional advice with low-level physical activity.
